St Nicholas Fayre in York

St Nicholas Fayre in YorkWe are delighted to announce that one of the UK’s favourite Christmas markets is extending from four days to over three weeks for the first time in its 23-year and highly successful history. This year, enjoy St Nicholas Fair for fabulous pre-Christmas shopping for 25 days from Thursday 27 November to Sunday 21 December. There’ll be lots to celebrate, including a rolling programme of different market stalls throughout the Fair, and specialty stalls featuring Food, Sparkles and Toys.

As usual, snug wooden huts and pretty lights will line Parliament Street with a traditional carousel in St Sampson’s Square. Stall holders, dressed in Dickensian costume, will be offering a huge array of gifts including jewellery, ceramics, as well as seasonal food and drinks, plus herbs and oils and decorations for Christmas.

York is a Christmas shopping heaven with its eclectic mix of shops as well as wonderful Christmas markets throughout York’s atmospheric streets! The festive shopping starts off with the ever popular St Nicholas Market on the 27th November and continues all the way to December 21st. During St Nicholas Market, there is a sense of stepping into a scene from a Dicken’s tale with bustling Victorian market stalls selling everything from local produce to traditional gifts and crafts, all accompanied by the smell of roasting chestnuts and the sound of carol singers. For unique presents from a different era head to the Medieval Market at Barley Hall. Be sure to try a pint of traditional ale or a glass of mulled wine at the Medieval bar! There are loads more Christmas Fairs dotted in and around York! Castle Howard always organises magical Christmas events with loads of Crafts markets.

If you want to do your Christmas shopping, York is the city, with a pedestrianised city centre full of boutique shops and markets with wonderful unique gifts as well as the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet just 10 min drive from the city centre.

If, after all this, your appetite for shopping is still not satisfied, venture to the ever popular Made in Yorkshire Christmas Market offering the best of regional produce and crafts ranging from ceramics to textiles.
